Avant Garde Issue #14

Vintage

The final issue of the popular and provocative Avant Garde magazine, published in 1971. Soft cover art by Lambert Wintersberger. Includes caustically critical essays such as The Sexual Symbolism of the American Flag, High Times, and Belles Lettres. Filled with imagery often aimed at taking a stab at American society and government with a mix of sexual themes and, for the time, crude language.

60 pages. Measures approximately  11” x 11”. In excellent vintage condition. As with any vintage publication, some minor signs of use and wear are to be expected.

In the words of publisher/editor Ralph Ginzburg, Avant Garde was meant to be “a thoughtful, joyous magazine on art and politics” aimed at people “ahead of their time”. It was published in New York from January 1968 to July 1971.  The logo, which was later made to be a commercial typeface, was designed by Herbert Lubalin.

Please note that our vintage items are final sale due to their delicate nature.
