Turquoise Circle Necklace

General Store

Vintage silver and turquoise necklace showcasing the Zuni Petit Point technique. A small circular pendant hangs from an 18-inch chain connecting to a larger pendant with two sets of circles, one encompassing the other and supporting five sterling silver dangles. Spring ring closure.

Though Native American Tribes had been working with metal for generations, modern silver working techniques were only introduced in the 19th century by artists from Mexico. In the 1870’s, the Navajo shared these techniques with the Zuni, who are thought to be the first to insert turquoise stone into silver settings. Across Native America, jewelry makers developed tribal styles, traditions, and expertise.

Please note that due to their delicate nature all of our vintage items are final sale.
