The Cut Outs

Artbook / DAP

From MoMA's 2014 exhibition, Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs explores the esteemed artist's work made from the early 1940's until his death in 1954. This comprehensive publication presents approximately 150 works in a groundbreaking reassessment of Matisse's colorful and innovative final chapter. Through the discussion of research conducted on two fronts--conservation and curatorial--the catalogue offers a reconsideration of the cut-outs by exploring a host of technical and conceptual issues. Alongside an introduction and a conservation essay that consider the cut-outs from new theoretical and technical perspectives, the book includes five thematic essays that focus on different moments in the development of Matisse's cut-out practice.

Hardcover, 302 pages. Measures 9” x 11”. Published by The Museum of Modern Art, New York; 2014. Text by Samantha Friedman.
